Uni Revue 2015: Indiana Joe and the Budget of Doom
Directed by Andrew Casey and Justin Smith
Uni Revue 2015: Indiana Joe and the Budget of Doom had a big focus on Federal politics, following treasurer (and adventurer) Indiana Joe Hockey and his cadre of inept Ministers as they hunted for the mythical lost Budget of God.
The show had a bigger focus on a running plot than Revue had done in some years, loosely following Indiana Joe Hockey, Tony Abbott, Sussan Ley and Julie Bishop as they hunt for the Budget of God, thwarted by their milder Tas Liberal counterparts Will Hodgman and Jacquie Petrusma, and hassled at every turn by Clive Palmer and the mysterious yellow-scarfed Jacqui Lambie…
2015 was a bit transitional for Uni Revue. The production team made great efforts to modernise parts of the Revue left lagging, from the writing process to production values. This was the first Uni Revue to have the entire cast wearing microphones for the duration of the show. They created a production manager’s handbook for use by future Uni Revue production teams. AV was further implemented in ways to complement and interact with the live performers on stage.
The show featured numerous references to Indiana Jones, including an introduction movie inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark and the use of Anything Goes as the opening number, reminiscent of Temple of Doom. The show also contained the usual series of songs, dances and comedy sketches which stood alone from the main political script, but to tie it all together thematically the props and costumes were all inspired by the 1930’s and 1940’s. This was all presented on a set designed to evoke the feeling of an ancient temple.
